Poetry Friday

Puddles

I
Splattering traces of brown and black,

against the white and pink of your dress.

Your feet landed on puddles of mud,

the rain spits out hues at your gaiety.

II

Footsteps of a ballerinas' accolade,

pirouettes and fouettes executed passionately.

Waltzing drizzles of steady drums of thunder,

soaked your lavished hair and your pale skin.

Another guest poet is Deeptesh Sen.

Under the pale moon

0624200900590110

Under the pale moon, magic erupted,
legends spoke of new life.
Sorcery and trickery reigned
from this cold and dark strife.

Shakespear's immortal story,
fell under the pale moon's radiance.
A myth of generations once told,
love story of endless essence.

Heroes shed blood, tears and sweat,
in the dimmed sky with a lone light.
that came from the pale moon,
losing and winning battles delight.

A father's eternal promise to his son,
that he shall return from a bitter war.
Returned lifeless - a ghost of heart,
pale moon witnessed memoir,

Sacrifice to pagan gods of the pale moon,
for harvest, fertility, and for wealth untold.
Only sorrows were earned - loss of souls,
repentance from darkness that unfolded.

Inspired by the words of Robin of Robin's Nest, a superb poet, her "Moonwatchers" brought forth to this poem. A sort of poetry challenge to myself using the words "pale moon."

I just heard that Robin will be gone for a while, so I rushed to post this poem.

Come back soon with more poetry Robin. Take care!

I am my father's son

0621200909010910

I am my father's son.

His ancestors live in my blood,
the root of who I am today.
His legacy of time foretold
future of generations someday.

His strong adamant will,
determined calculated mind.
His eager child of education,
offspring of a covenant - twined.

I am my father's son.

I wish of honor to his name,
justice to this life's ideals.
Enigmatic walls only exclaim,
for they tore asunder from his ordeals.

With me is the family's repute,
my strength comes from this power.
Unafraid of mistakes - trivial pursuits,
lifeless sorrows shrink and wither.

I am my father's son.

Memories of you

(Zorlone)
p04282009 05190529m

Glimpses of an undying past,
invited brothers sorrow and remorse.
A mountain of diaries that amassed,
conveyed fear of this ill-fated course.

Flowers that your beauty once graced,
withered from an ocean of memories.
Your words sincerely spoken - my ears ached,
were feathers that brushed against mortal agonies.

Recollections of you - forgotten,
this pain of being alone once again.
Paintings of this once surreal love - stolen,
burned painfully bright in the end.

This weeping desire, I humbly embraced,
a hunger for your once pleasant warmth - bereft.
Mere reflections on a glazed mirrors surface,
of this broken heart, betrayed when you left.

Personal note: JenaIsle after writing several poems, I think this is "the style" I am most comfortable with.

Creature of the night

0606200901200128

Longing fervent howl deep in a new moon night,
into the woods she braved an untrodden path.
A lonesome soul searches her heart tonight
through grimy, decaying, and smog filled tracks.

Lightning flashes were tricksters that struck,
these luminous folks of the misty cold.
Heavy breathing of a girl's love - amuck,
his sweet heart's call in the woods - she trolled.

At last laid upon her, patiently waiting,
no movement seen, claws protracted.
With ruby red eyes - fangs wide and gaping,
the thick furry coat this beast shrouded.

Upon eye contact she knew what she'd seen,
this creature of the night, temporarily astray.
His familiar shadow struggled within,
she laid by his side, 'til this spell cast away.

Goodbye

0608200920332049

This verbum me vocat,

while I got lost in the crowds,
of unending condolences.

Moments of private cries,
and mourning handshakes.

This verbum me vocat,

as faces blurred,
in the tired dead of the night.

Half awakened expressions,
of delightful exhaustion.

This verbum me vocat,

of fond memories of you,
shall be engraved in our hearts.

The wisdom you shared,
shall be made heirlooms.

This verbum me vocat,

as a weary body lie,
under sighs of solemness.

honored forever - graciously,
only to say good bye.

This verbum me vocat,

as candles danced,
sorrowfully in your funeral.

As flowers wept,
on your newly laid slab of marble.

This verbum me vocat,
"Apo."

Jennifer M Scott's new poetry challenge is to use the phrase: "verbum me vocat" at least once in your poem. Of course you can use it as many times as you wish! Verbum me vocat means “word calls me”.

Addendum: "Apo" is a Filipino term that means Grandchild

This poem is dedicated to my Lolo Poleng (Grandpa Poleng) who passed away last May 30, 2009 at a tender age of 81.

Sleep

0501200912131217

Slowly,
the clouds clear
from my eyes.

Episodes,
of black and white
memories.

Shadows,
grew ever closer
inside.

Memories,
lagging but dismissed
within.

Sleep,
comforts an embrace
of warmth.
