Lamenting in darkness

0713200918431852

I woke up broken at the dawn of this day,

like mirror shredded in a million pieces.

news I heard from a mournful Sunday,

as her wedding day swiftly approaches.

Rough wrecked sanity enveloped,

these few lucid strands of my mind.

This lover's hope I clenched and invoked,

mere dusts aching memories left behind.

The day flew swiftly into humorless shadows,

of solemn goodbyes I last remembered.

How you were happy with his faithful vows,

but I shall only be to you - a soul kindred.

The night approached its darkest grief,

as I drown in its fathomless blackness.

A call from friends gave a mere breath of relief,

For I light my candle from their torches.

This was a poem inspired by the poetry challenge by Jenn Scott.

Untamed beauty

05282003-18121827

The sunrise avoids your stare,
for she looks less graceful in your presence.
The morning sun is subdued - it's bare,
she glances away from your radiance.

A breath of your puzzling innocent style,
hides the thoughts within your lovely eyes.
What secrets lie beneath your meek exile?
What truths abound in your silent goodbyes?

Even the songbirds come to admire you,
but you are always ahead of their disguise.
They hum, they sing, they even coo,
try they can, but you are no prize.

A gentle smile, a watchful look,
choosing to be the exquisite wife.
Your soft lips tease, yet in your book,
you are the mystery in their lives.

Memories of you

Glimpses of an undying past,
invited brothers sorrow and remorse.
A mountain of diaries that amassed,
conveyed fear of this ill-fated course.

Flowers that your beauty once graced,
withered from an ocean of memories.
Your words sincerely spoken - my ears ached,
were feathers that brushed against mortal agonies.

Recollections of you - forgotten,
this pain of being alone once again.
Paintings of this once surreal love - stolen,
burned painfully bright in the end.

This weeping desire, I humbly embraced,
a hunger for your once pleasant warmth - bereft.
Mere reflections on a glazed mirrors surface,
of this broken heart, betrayed when you left.

Personal note: JenaIsle after writing several poems, I think this is "the style" I am most comfortable with.
