Eastern Star

0829200901180129
A thousand miles and more - away,
your presence is felt here.
Pictures of you on walls - display,
in this home that you used to stir.

The virtual conversations in cyberspace,
not a mouse click away.
Fills this longing for your avid grace,
sweet laughter brought to stay.

Your million different tasks await,
secluded offices under the desert sun.
Cool precision of your meticulous state,
never fails your industrious reasons.

Missing you here - so far,
with absent tangible kisses and embrace.
My dear sister of the Eastern star,
I send you health and brilliant diamonds - glaze!

Happy birthday to my sister Lorelie

Unafraid to love

0829200912311247

Man: What does it take for you to believe
this honest love I offer you - undeceived.

A light in my heart reverberates a song,
only sopranos and tenors dare take on.

Woman: Lies! Lifted from your lips,
my father warned me about your colored aesthetics.

Try you must, to make me persuade,
my tired heart wont make a mistake.

A Hermit's Reward

Taken with permission from jerb's flickr account

0808200912021215

The hermit on a hill spend days just "to be,"
mingled in a mirror that time and space scribbled.
A barren gift of sweet filled candies,
rewards received from prisoned warmth unshackled.

Luminous lights of halogen fireflies amuse,
silly thoughts of impulsiveness to write.
Clear and infinite kaleidoscope ruse,
often seen stolen from a cold rainy night.

Malicious Appetite

0819200909250935

In dark alleys, they lurk,
like baits for hungry fishes.
Beautiful, alluring, and provocative,
you can't help but stare.

From a lustful craving, you come.
Borne upon a titillating desire.

Leaves
0812200910511053

Playing like ribbons,
floating in air - like bubbles.
Dried leaves of summer.

Afternoon heat
0812200915001502

Grains of liquid salt,
stick to newly ironed suits.
Streets melt in the sun.

Siesta
0812200915081509

Lazy sticky lids,
on a fat atrocious pig.
Afternoon stood still.

Train Heart

0717200910161040

A fond memory of a recent past,
I spoke to you again.
This queue of faceless crowds,
bewildered, but not forgotten.

You took me to my school,
to my date, and to my gimmicks.
Your rustling metal wheels,
helped me silently think.

First Step

0807200923332346

I used to sit and ponder
of what this life would be.
A solid look, an easy smile,
with songs from different voices.
Post it covered walls
define a day of a busy bee.
Few hours infront of a laptop,
to update twitter, plurk, and facebook pages.

Gradual Move

Picture was taken with permission from jerb's flickr account

0806200923382345

Even a slow transition to a new house,
may seem like an overwhelming spouse.
The change has not been smooth,
for much had been lost with such a move.

I thread the water so slowly,
this heaven on the ground - velvety.
Such carpentry ingeniously mastered,
this tranquil poet - encountered.

The bright luminescent flames,
set aside in a fireplace's name.
Have been the warmth and glow,
of this new home I would call my own.

Yellow Ribbons: A Sonnet for Cory Aquino

0731200902260237

Faith - such an eloquently righteous human trait,
these divided souls of chaotic worldly cry.
What have been a momentous lucent losing state,
yellow color that alone symbolized your smile.
Weight of a nation once on your broken shoulders,
left scars - distasteful garish attacks and disgrace.
Losing a hero - who wanted you forever,
a father of this country with a gun betrayed.

Now you lie in peace, this country beckons,
our prayers adrift through yellow ribbons - unite.
A call to the people to make an impression,
these questioning times of desperation and strife.
Hoping for a miracle of voices pray dear,
that smile on your face that would never disappear.

Random Haiku

0729200909400945

Crazy weather falls,
dark clouds with holes of sunlight,
umbrellas flew by.

0729200910051010

I taste the sweet air,
berries and mint with frosting,
I salivate now.

Three hours

0726200920442353

8:44pm

Inching my way through dreaded traffic,
on a Sunday night, weary and rain-sick.

Rain fell like lemon drops on my windshield,
smearing the transparent glass with a taste - sour-filled.

9:35pm

The lively sounds on the careless radio,
contradicted the atmosphere's depot.

Wild horns of angry cars prepared to fight,
while my mind was preoccupied with the urge to go home tonight.

10:57pm

The procession of commuters simply continued
as the cars behind me deliberately counter-flowed.

The volume of vehicles spilled over,
while water spew out of manholes' fervor.

11:53pm

The slow crawl of unhappy crowd ceased intently,
flying past the remnants of the flooded streets hungrily.

A sigh of relief brought home, yet less vigor,
this tired and worn out lonesome driver.

Rush train-ache

0709200918581911

Rush hour has given way,
for my desire to come home.
This jam packed train has beckoned,
to relive these fond memories alone.

Ignoring the sweaty perfume,
of passengers tired and worn.
The soft beeping doors reminded me,
of your melodic voice of tone.

I squeezed inside to make way,
witnessing a rare lover's kiss.
Reminded me of our youth together.
Oh, how immature were us kids!

These billboards spoke of memories,
of our dear romantic bliss.
Each landmark planted glimpses,
miserably stored inside - amiss.

As I left the train, I found the familiar smell,
our long embrace when we parted.
Everyday this train ride reminds me,
the pain of your absence, my beloved.

Flipping channels

0722200921402159

Channel surfing on cable TV while procrastinated on life,
Smallville or Discovery, the latter station sufficed.

When National Geographic appeared, featuring trendy Asian fashion,
I just flipped the channel again, opted to watch a UFC countdown.

On ANC, just more breaking news about a mudslide in Japan.
While CNN had a different view, it featured a total eclipse of our sun.

At Studio 23, there was basketball, while Donald Trump was on Starworld,
Oprah talked while Michael Jackson had a tribute - alas, moonwalked backward.

Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, showed my favorite animations,
Ben Ten and Avatar Ang saving lives and nations.

ESPN showed Wimbledon, Federer reigned as king,
Indiana Jones was at Cinemax, I was going crazy on tv listings.

Infomercials everywhere, I could have almost dialed.
Remembering my last list poem, so munching chips is what I tackled.

Too bad for re-runs of my favorite serial killer,
Dexter would have gotten them all, those heartless evil doers.

Breaking the magician's code, was not made with just some wild guesses.
It was more like Mythbusters at work, with lots of music and dances.

Fox Crime showed Bones and Fringe, even an episode of CSI.
Hallmark ran an old movie, I didn't get the title - maybe later online.

A night alone with TV and cable, never was a hateful activity,
Relaxing this tired mind, to entertain this midweek's insanity.

After thought

0720200900000005
Shredded clouds lay on earth,

like solemn mournful pleas.
Anxieties and enemies hurt,
this concealed war driven slurry.

Illusion of a threatening cry,

never was a good invitation.
Sharing pieces of deep seated sighs,
words used shamelessly for attention.

A certainty of indecision passed,
unwilling sadness was awakened.
This truth of a half hearted lass,
was never in the right place to mention.

Only when the after thought came,
sorry for one's actions.
Lesson learned for what might become,
a lonesome memory - abandoned.

My pocket is empty

0718200921432147

My pocket is empty, I don't know why,
was it the new ipod I bought last night?

My pocket is empty, so I reached a little deeper,
got a receipt from an expensive dinner.

My pocket is empty, I should not have given in,
to the plea of my niece's birthday gift last weekend.

My pocket is empty, so I checked my wallet,
there wasn't any bills, not even a cent.

My pocket is empty, I went to the ATM,
only to find out that that was a dead end.

My pocket is empty, so I'm working overtime tonight,
even if I get home way after midnight.

My pocket is empty, I am dying in shame,
can you please spare me some change?

Thanks to eyevasco for the burst of inspiration. I was having the same predicament as you.

Could have been dinner

Warning: Not for the faint of heart

0505200904340445

Smooth road brought excitement,
to hungry tires with teeth bare.
Giggles with deafening echoes,
resound from here to everywhere.

Turns and corners,
of unknown uncaring distances,
succumb to the elusive joy,
as this trip - advances.

Pin point colored rays strained,
from thick canopies of clouds,
arouse flapping wings of youngsters,
lurking beyond.

Wakeful snoozing head,
of a tired driver's view,
sudden darkened road,
unnoticed by this dumb sinew.

A turkey abruptly awaken,
these eyes wide open now!
Familiar reflexes blinked,
like a kitchen knife in the hands of a hausfrau.

Half a second too late,
these starving tires satisfied.
The crush of snapping bones,
insides squashed out life.

Oozing blood and juices,
organs flew everywhere,
a flattened wasted mound,
of what could have been dinner.

Mercilessly left,
a roadkill set aside.
This stupid driver left
and lost the view from his rear sight.

A comment several posts back between Roy and Holly about making an ode to a roadkill made me attempt to make this. I just finished editing it, I hope this is close enough.

Lamenting in darkness

0713200918431852

I woke up broken at the dawn of this day,

like mirror shredded in a million pieces.

news I heard from a mournful Sunday,

as her wedding day swiftly approaches.

Rough wrecked sanity enveloped,

these few lucid strands of my mind.

This lover's hope I clenched and invoked,

mere dusts aching memories left behind.

The day flew swiftly into humorless shadows,

of solemn goodbyes I last remembered.

How you were happy with his faithful vows,

but I shall only be to you - a soul kindred.

The night approached its darkest grief,

as I drown in its fathomless blackness.

A call from friends gave a mere breath of relief,

For I light my candle from their torches.

Just another bus commute

0709200919381949

This crowded bus commute to home,
brought me instant irritation.
How I hate this conventional ordeal,
crowd, traffic, and rejection.

Until I sat in a cool and spacious seat,
noticeable instant attraction.
A lovely girl with long straight hair,
also looking at my direction.

I knew chemistry ignited the air,
electricity somewhat overflowed.
Sparkles of magic out of nowhere,
ire gladly departed with sorrow.

At a moment's rush I walked towards her,
as the bus gradually halted.
Inches away, her eyes summoned,
yet I slipped through the door and departed.

I sit,
blankly staring in a screen of hope.
Pondering over,
endless inspiration for one.

This hum,
a soft mechanical allure.
Lingers freely,
they shout into my deafened ears.

Mixing madness,
a solid array and blissful thoughts.
Vacuous disarray,
in a semi darkened room of abstinence.

A prose,
gently undulates the reverberation.
Inside me,
this absent confusion writes.

In unity

0604200908500855

Anxiously waiting along the
isle,
footsteps of the bride to be.
All eyes upon the lovely bride,
for all the family and friends to see.

Witnesses of an undying love,
rebirth of a relationship for three.
A husband and a wife's commitment,
with God as witness to their eternity.

All ears eagerly waited to hear,
the resounding words of I dos.
Ever the faithful hearts bound together,
the matrimonial celebration anew.

As witnesses of this glorious day,

of dear friends finally united.
Forever shall their love remain,
and start the memories tonight.

Congratulations and best wishes to Abbie and Reynold!
